Dave Patton, 83, of Beacon, Iowa, passed away Thursday, August 1, 2024, at his home in Beacon.
Donald David Patton, son of Wayne and Leora (Merrill) Patton, was born October 20, 1940, in Mahaska County, Iowa. As a youngster, he received his education through Oskaloosa Schools. At the age of 17, Dave enlisted in the United States Navy. He served on The U.S.S. Constitution as a ship electrician. While on leave, Dave married Marilyn McAdoo, and five children were born into this union. They later divorced. He served his country for six years before being honorably discharged from the Navy. After his service, he moved back to Oskaloosa and worked in the construction business in neighboring cities. He later went to work for Pella Corporation, where he was a painter, along with other duties. He retired from Pella in 1998 after over 22 years of service.
On May 28, 1988, Dave was united in marriage to Jo Beal Kraber in Tracy, Iowa. Dave and Jo enjoyed many activities together, including fishing, camping, music, and gardening. He also was an avid fan of wrestling. Dave was not afraid of hard work. He even started a hobby business of creating iron items, such as tables and chairs. Dave attended the First Pentecostal Church, and his true joy came from time spent with his family.
Dave’s family includes his wife, Jo Patton of Beacon; his children: Donald (Penny) Patton of Olathe, KS; Wendy (Terry) Bennett of Lee’s Summit, MO; Greg (Michelle) Patton of Oskaloosa, IA; Derrick (Jamie) Patton of Olathe, KS; Sheri (Andrea) Patton of Mesa, AZ; Dennis (Shari) Kraber of Blane, MN; and Raymond (Fiancé, Debbie Turner) Kraber of Helen, GA; 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Barb, and brother-in-law, Gary Shipley.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, August 3, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa, with Reverend Terry Bennett officiating. Please use the cemetery’s North 11th Street entrance and bear right to access the service. Langkamp Funeral Chapel & Crematory has been entrusted with Dave’s arrangements. Memorials may be made to Mahaska Hospice Serenity House.
