Crystal Kay VerSteegh Richards, passed away on July 27, 2024 at her home. She was born March 6, 1979, in Mason City, Iowa, was compassionate and brought humor and love into the lives of everyone she knew. Crystal’s laughter was contagious, her spirit, full of generosity, and her love for life, infectious. Her home was not just a house but a sanctuary of love and kindness where she nurtured her family and the numerous pets she adopted. She married Brian Richards, and to this union three children were born. She later married Timothy Deutscher.
Crystal had an enormous heart, her generosity knew no bounds. She had a funny bone that tickled everyone around her, and her laughter was a melody that echoed in every heart. What mattered most to Crystal was her family, especially her grandchildren. Every moment spent with them was a treasure, every memory a priceless gem.
She is survived by her mother, Bev VerSteegh; children, Shanya Richards, Haley Richards, Sean Richards; grandchildren, Phoenix Forsythe, Lilly Forsythe, Hudson Hall; brother, Cory VerSteegh, and Vicki Brunstein, Danielle Roath, Cameron Brunstein.
A celebration of Crystal’s life will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Grace Methodist Church, 13133 Angle Rd, Suite A, Ottumwa, Iowa, 52501. Memorials have been established to the family. We invite all those who knew Crystal and loved her to join us in honoring her beautiful spirit. Please bring your stories, your laughter, and your love.
