Tonight at the Bloomfield City Council meeting, a public hearing was held on the prospects of changing a city ordinance allowing residential living on the first floor of the square. Currently the ordinance allows residential living in the back half of the building as long as it’s less than 50% of the floor space.
The city has gotten some complaints that people are living in both the commercial and residential areas of some buildings. The public hearing was held to get input on options for enforcement and alternatives to keep this from happening. Members of the public and business owners voiced concerns about any possible changes that would force them to evict residents.
No decisions on this matter were made at the meeting tonight. The issue will continue to be discussed in future meetings.
