An early Tuesday morning storm swept through Ottumwa leaving downed trees and branches in its wake, with another round possibly coming late Tuesday morning.
Residents throughout the south side of Ottumwa have been clearing their neighborhoods and yards of fallen branches due to a thunderstorm that occurred around 4:00 AM. Power outages have been reported. Workers from the city of Ottumwa and Alliant Energy are working on cutting tree limbs and restoring power respectively.
Additionally, the National Weather Service says Mother Nature may not be done with the City of Bridges and surrounding areas. A Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for Wapello, Appanoose, Davis, Mahaska, and Monroe County. The Thunderstorm Warning will be in effect until 11:30 AM Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.
The latest storm may feature 60 mph winds and quarter-size hail.
A Heat Advisory that was issued Monday by the National Weather Service Remains in effect for Tuesday afternoon. The heat index is expected to approach 110 degrees.
