Sandra Sue Corder, 80, of Ottumwa, died at 11:45 p.m. June 30, 2024 at Hospice House in Ottumwa.

She was born July 30, 1943 in Ottumwa to Bill and Mildred Dilley Ware. Sandy married James Alden Corder on August 13, 1964 and he preceded her in death on September 9, 2014.

A resident of Ottumwa all of her life, she was a 1961 graduate of Ottumwa High School. Sandy grew up working at Ware’s Mary Street Grocery and Lagomarcino Distributing. She worked for 28 years at Prudential Insurance, retiring in 1996.

Sandy loved horses and had been a member of the Wapello County 4-H Horse Project since 1980. She was a member of Ottumwa Saddle Club, Davis County Saddle Club and Soap Creek Rebels. She and her husband, Jim, were inducted into the Iowa State 4-H Hall of Fame on August 17, 2008 at the Iowa State Fair.

Surviving are her daughters, Julie (Mark) Reeves and Diana (Steve Pollock) Baker both of Ottumwa; two grandsons, Clint Reeves and Levi Baker; an adopted granddaughter, Hannah Lind; a great-granddaughter, Raelynn Reeves; and her sister, Cheryl (Pastor Dennis) Doud of Moravia; and sister-in-law, Judy Corder of Dubuque.

Sandra was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Betty Kelley, Ila Ware, Harvey “Gab” Ware and Derrald “Pug” Ware.

Visitation will be open at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 2nd at Reece Funeral Home with the family present to greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 3rd at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Dennis Doud officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the family so they can purchase a bench for the 4-H grounds or for Ottumwa Saddle Club.
