The Ottumwa Police Department says a man was stabbed to death early Tuesday morning and the suspect was arrested eight hours later.
32-year-old Joshua Michael has been charged with first-degree murder.
Lieutenant Jason Bell says his department received a call at 1:02 AM that an individual was stabbed by a knife. When officers arrived, they made contact with 40-year-old Jeffrey Johns who suffered a stab wound to his torso. Johns was transported to Ottumwa Regional Health Center but died from his injuries.
A search warrant was executed at a home on the 2200 block of East Main Street at 9:12 AM. Bell says authorities found Michael hiding in the attic of the residence. Michael was taken into custody and transported to the Wapello County Jail.
The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation assisted in the case.
