Marilyn Kraber


Marilyn Lou Kraber, a cherished pillar of the Lovilia, Iowa community and a beloved member of numerous local organizations, passed away on July 6, 2024 at the Knoxville Hospital. Marilyn was born on April 14, 1933, in Lovilia to Francis “Fritz” and Frances (Stafford) Smith.

She was a loving, compassionate, and witty individual, known for her engaging humor and the warmth that she extended to all those fortunate to know her. She had a knack for making everyone feel special, and her home was a haven of love and laughter where everyone was always welcome.

Marilyn was a devoted homemaker, always putting her family at the heart of everything she did. Her dedication to her loved ones was unwavering, and her nurturing spirit touched the lives of all who knew her. Marilyn was a proud member of the Lovilia United Methodist Church and the Lovilia United Methodist Women’s club. She was also instrumental in organizing events at the Lovilia Community Building.

Marilyn’s work history included several years at the Ben Franklin store in Albia, and she served her community as the Lovilia City Clerk for many years. Her hobbies included reading, gardening, and spending precious time with her family, especially her treasured great-grandchildren. Marilyn was the epitome of a caring, involved, and lively community member. Her conversations with friends, full of her characteristic wit and humor, were the highlight of many people’s days.

She is survived by two children, David Kraber, Debbie (Jim) Gass; 4 grandchildren, Matthew (Holly) Kraber, Sarah (Justin) Lang, Brian Gass, Lindsey (Zach) Brandon; great grandchildren, Karson, Ayden, Jaxsen, Ava, Natalie; one sister Sue Walter; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Fred and Goldie Kraber, many nieces, nephews, and friends also survive.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Kraber; parents, Fritz and Frances Smith; one son in infancy, Duane Kraber; daughter-in-law, Linda Kraber, two brothers-in-law, Dennis Walter, and Richard Kraber.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 11, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at the Sinnott Funeral Home in Albia with Ray Doser officiating. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the same location. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Lovilia. Memorials have been established to the Woodlawn Cemetery.
