Evelyn was born in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, on September 8, 1931, to William Herbert and Florence Elizabeth Mallams Weiny. She attended school in Troy and graduated from Troy High School in 1949. She married Wayne L. Humphrey in June of 1951, and to this union, 7 children were born; 3 sons and 4 daughters, losing 2 daughters in infancy.
Evelyn exemplified the dedicated farm wife and mother, as she cherished her role in nurturing her growing family. She worked hard in everything she did, providing for her family, caring for a variety of farm animals, and maintaining a large garden to raise plenty of food for eating, freezing and canning.
She was a member of the Help Your Neighbor Club, the Mothers Club, and the 26-89 Saddle Club near Troy. She was active in the Troy United Methodist Church and most recently in the Milton Christian Church.
She worked in various jobs throughout her life off the farm as well. She was employed as a nurse’s aide, a teacher’s aide at Pulaski Elementary School, and worked at a lumberyard, as an over-the-road truck driver, at the Agricultural Soil & Conservation Service (ASCS) office and was a factory worker until her retirement from Plexco, in Bloomfield.
Evelyn will be remembered for many things including her farmhouse cookies, scalloped potatoes, handmade Care Bears and the annual Humphrey hog roast that she and Wayne hosted for 24 years together until his passing in 2015.
Her legacy will be carried on by her devoted family, including her three sons; Mike Humphrey (Sharry) of Bloomfield, Roger Humphrey (Linda) of Bloomfield and Curtis Humphrey (Allison) of Milton; two daughters, Karla Hill (Tony) of Bloomfield and Shelli Hoerr (Mark) of Brimfield, Illinois; 15 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, with one on the way, and 1 great, great grandchild, a brother, and many, many extended family and friends.
Welcoming her to glory will be her parents, her husband Wayne, her daughters Vicki and Cheri´, a sister, Margaret Flood, and a grandson, Tommy Hoerr.
Her appetite for spiritual growth and her commitment to Christ were an inspiration and she will be greatly missed.
