Carlton LeRoy Mumford, 86, of Ottumwa, made his final journey home to be with the Lord on July 11, 2024 at Grandview Heights in Marshalltown, IA

He was born June 11, 1938 in Ottumwa to Alvin LeRoy Mumford and Dena Maurine Reeves Mumford.

A graduate of Ottumwa High School, he then served in the US Army from 1956-1958, and later with the US Army Reserves. He relocated to California to be closer to his family. He worked for Raytheon Technologies Corporation and for the California State University System. He loved country music, writing poetry and verse. A county boy at heart, in 1992 he returned to his hometown of Ottumwa.

Surviving is his sister, Naomi G. Daugherty of CA, nieces, Connie Lindquist and Gail Daugherty; nephews, Steve (Valerie) Blehm, Mike (Amy) Blehm, David (Kim) Blehm; and many grand nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Sheryl Lynn Mumford and A. Wilma Blehm and niece, De De Daugherty Lowe.

Carlton’s philosophical spirit will be missed by all who knew him.

Private burial and military honors were held at Shaul Cemetery IA.
