OPD: Woman Hides Drugs from Police During Search


An Ottumwa woman faces charges after police say she unsuccessfully hid drugs during a traffic stop.

41-year-old Katie Campbell faces charges of Possession with Intent to deliver more than five grams of methamphetamine, a Class B Felony, Failure to Affix Drug Tax Stamp for more than seven grams, and a 3rd Offense for Possession of a Controlled Substance, which are Class D Felonies.

On June 3, court records say Campbell was the passenger in a vehicle during a traffic stop. Authorities asked Campbell to step out of the vehicle, a bag of crystalline methamphetamine was found in Campbell’s purse. The bag of methamphetamine consisted of large rocks with a smaller bag containing finer methamphetamine and weighed 7.3 grams, according to police.

Police continued their search and Campbell allegedly attempted to throw a bag containing marijuana and two THC gummies under the vehicle. Campbell has two prior drug convictions including one being marijuana.

Campbell was taken to the Wapello County Jail. A bond was set to $25,000 and a preliminary hearing will take place on June 14.
