Judith Mackenzie


Judith May MacKenzie, 82, of Ottumwa, died at 10:12 p.m. June 20, 2024 at Hospice House in Ottumwa.

She was born March 3, 1942 in Ottumwa to Wayne and Grace Gray Sample. She married James Van Klavern and they later divorced. She married David MacKenzie May 14, 1994.

A graduate of Albia High School and Indian Hills Community College, Judy worked 27 years for John Deere Ottumwa Works, retiring as a supervisor in 2000.

She was a member of First Christian Church in Albia and was a member of SWIGS.

Surviving is her husband, David; their children, Paul Van Klavern of Cedar Rapids, Pat Van Klavern, Judith (Bill) Murphy and Jim (Carolyn) Van Klavern all of Albia, Leslie Den Ouden of Boone and Christopher MacKenzie of Boone; 7 grandchildren, Joshua Allen (Paw Kpru), Morgan (J.D.) Henderson, Ellen (Josh) Starkey, Joseph (Devinn) Clayton, Melissa Van Klavern, Jordan Clayton and David Van Klavern; 8 great-grandchildren, Kaiden Keller, Hazel Henderson, Zoey Henderson, Riggs Henderson, Parker Starkey, Brooks Starkey, Rylynn Shunk and Calvin Shunk; siblings, Gary (Twila) Sample, Joyce (John) Smithberg and David (Rachel) Sample all of Albia; 2 sisters-in-law, Sheila Sample and Linda Sample; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Wayne “Lee” Sample Jr. and Guy Sample.

Visitation will be open at 9 a.m. Wednesday, June 26th at Reece Funeral Home with the family present to greet friends 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Funeral services will be 9 a.m. Thursday, June 27th at First Christian Church in Albia with Pastor John Sowers officiating Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Christian Church in Albia or Hospice Serving Davis and Wapello Counties.
