A central Iowa man was hospitalized after a skydiving accident late last week in Marion County.
According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, 61-year-old Samuel Evans of Urbandale was among a group who jumped from about 15,000 feet on Friday afternoon.
The group noticed Evans was experiencing trouble opening his parachute at around 4,000 feet. The sheriff’s office says Evans spiraled out of control and struck the ground near the Knoxville Municipal Airport.
Evans was airlifted to a hospital in Des Moines with serious injuries. His current status is unknown.
Marion County Sheriff Jason Sandholdt says an investigation will be launched to determine the circumstances that led to the accident.
