An Ottumwa man was charged with a felony after police say he intentionally started a fire in a home on Thursday night while a mother and her child were sleeping.
30-year-old Jonathan Brown was charged with first-degree arson.
According to court documents, at 9:40 PM, Brown deliberately ignited combustible materials inside a residence on the 1100 block of Richmond Avenue. The smell of the burning items woke the mother, who put the fire out with water.
The criminal complaint shows Brown and the victim share the same address.
Brown was arrested and transported to the Wapello County Jail. He is being held without bond pending a hearing with a magistrate judge.
