An Ottumwa man faces additional charges after police say drugs were found in his possession while he was being arrested on unrelated charges.

29-year-old Michael Kelso was charged with possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine (Class B felony), failure to affix a drug tax stamp (Class D felony), and interference with official acts (simple misdemeanor).

Around noon on Tuesday, court records say police spotted Kelso on the 300 block of West Williams in Ottumwa and informed him that he was under arrest based on two active warrants for failure to appear.

Kelso allegedly attempted to run away but was apprehended by law enforcement after a chase that spanned several blocks.

Kelso was searched and court documents say 33 grams of methamphetamine were found in his pants pocket. Kelso also had packaging materials, a drug ledger, and a digital scale with methamphetamine residue allegedly in his possession.

Kelso was transported to the Wapello County Jail. His bail has been set at $45,000.
