Larry Dean Meixner, 80, of Ottumwa, died at 8:37 a.m. April 2, 2024 at his home.

He was born February 18, 1944 in Batavia to Ben and Mabel Francis Meixner. He married Karen Sue Richardson May 16, 1964 and she preceded him in death December 27, 2020.

Larry worked for Trenton Foods in MO, did air conditioning work for Lynn Moffett, was a welder for Winger Contracting, worked for Donnellson Motors in Fairfield and for Foodliner in Eddyville. He had owned and operated Larry’s Auto Sales in Batavia, Eldon Auto Parts, Larry Meixner Trucking, The Car Place and Sam’s Auto & RV, along with owning several rental houses.

Larry had attended the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a member of Iowa Auto Dealers, serving as president for a term, Ottumwa Saddle Club, Soap Creek Rebels and the Cushman Club of America.

Surviving are his children, Doug (Grettel) Meixner of Commerce, TX, Deanna “D. D.” (Leonard) Sloat of Ottumwa and Janice “JK” (Larry) Snakenberg of Ottumwa; grandchildren, Michelle (Tyrus) Hill, Cody (Kaylyn) Meixner, Thomas Sloat, Taylor (Travis) Morton, Tessa Sloat, Colton (Katie) Snakenberg and Clay Snakenberg; 5 great-grandchildren, Olivia Hill, Jackson Hill, Troy Morton, Taz Morton, Ellie Sue Snakenberg and one on the way; and his sister, Marjorie Ireland of Oskaloosa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Alice Arlene Godman and Dorothy Hilda VanVelzer.

Visitation will be open at 10 a.m. Monday, April 8th at Reece Funeral Home with the family present to greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 9th at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with Bishop Tanner Crossley officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Ottumwa Ward.
