One of the newest businesses in Albia, Iowa had their ribbon cutting ceremony today. The Albia Tea Parlor, and owners Bill and Sherri Duey welcomed guests at the parlor, to get a taste of the wonderful atmosphere, victorian era furnishings, and the tea itself, of course.

The first thing you notice walking into the Albia Tea Parlor is the atmosphere. It can only be described like taking a step back in time to the Victorian era. Your eyes are drawn to the beautiful Victorian era furnishings. paintings and large Victorian Style mirrors adorning the walls. Sherry Duey said she wanted to create a Victorian era experience for Albia and provide a special place that friends and family can gather. My experience today at the ribbon cutting provided just that!

When asked about acquiring the decorations, Ms. Duey explained that the Robert Bates Foundation partnered with the Tea Parlor on this project. In fact, most of the beautiful Victorian furnishings; paintings; mirrors and curiosities are from the late Mr. Bates collection. Robert Bates is recognized as the father of Albia’s restoration efforts.

The Albia Tea Parlor is not open for walk in tea service, however there are multiple ways to enjoy this amazing place.

Sherri plans special tea events that you can purchase tickets to attend. Upcoming scheduled tea events include a “Spring Tea” on April 6th; a “Knitter’s Tea” on April 13th and a “Mother’s Day Tea” on May 11th. Sherri said that the teas often include entertainment in the parlor.

You can also rent the Albia Tea Parlor for your own events. Sherri can curate your event with special activities if desired.

If you would like to come to a tea event you can purchase tickets at www.albiateaparlor.com. If you would like to rent the Albia tea parlor for your event or have questions e-mail Sherri Duey at [email protected] or call 641-777-0465.
