Juvenile Charged with Arson after Walmart Fire

A juvenile is accused of intentionally starting a fire inside the Walmart in Oskaloosa.

According to authorities, at 6:38 PM on Sunday, a fire was set in the women’s intimate section in the store. The fire was put out by the store’s staff and a customer. No injuries were reported.

Officials from the Oskaloosa Police Department and Oskaloosa Fire Department arrived and began investigating the cause of the fire after the business was evacuated. Investigating video surveillance led authorities to interview two witnesses which led to a juvenile that was in the area of the fire when it was ignited.

The juvenile was identified and charged with first-degree arson (Class B felony) and first-degree criminal mischief (Class C felony).

The juvenile was fingerprinted and referred to the juvenile court officer before being sent home.
