Vernon Dale Dykstra, age 89, passed away on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at his home. Vernon was born on February 11, 1934, the son of Nicholas and Minnie (Walraven) Dykstra. He was born in Oskaloosa, IA where his family resided in Lacey, IA. The family then moved to Bussey, IA where Vernon was raised on the family farm, and then moved with his brother Merle to his current home in Bussey, IA. He graduated from Lacey High School.
Vernon worked for many years at Pella Corp in Pella. After retirement, he worked part-time for the Oskaloosa Herald. In his free time, he enjoyed coffee times in Bussey and Oskaloosa each morning with friends. He spent time collecting glassware and always had someone in mind to generously gift his treasures.
Vernon is survived by his many nieces and nephews and their families. He is preceded in death by his parents Nicholas and Minnie (Walraven) Dykstra; sister Esther Lucille Dykstra-Stainbrook-Kempenaar, three brothers, Virgil Dykstra, Marion Dykstra and Merle Dykstra.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 9, 2024, at 9:00am and the funeral will follow at 10:00am at the Bates Funeral Home in Oskaloosa with Reverend Jon Nelson officiating. Burial will be at the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa, IA.
