Officials say two people died in a house fire on the north side of Ottumwa over the weekend.
Emergency crews responded to the 200 block of West Woodland Avenue just after 7:30 PM on Saturday. Firefighters battled the blaze into the early morning hours of Sunday.
The city of Ottumwa says there were two fatalities and the other occupants of the home were safely evacuated. The identity of the deceased was not disclosed.
The State Fire Marshall was contacted to assist with the fire investigation. No other details were released.
Officials say the investigation is ongoing.
