Ronald John Hastings, 74, of Birmingham, IA passed away on Sunday, December 17, 2023, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, IA. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 21, 2023, at the Cranston Family Funeral Home in Fairfield. Following the visitation, a procession will form and travel to the Maple Hill Cemetery in Birmingham, IA for an 11:30 a.m. graveside service with Pastor Al Coffin Officiating. Ronald John Hastings was born on January 11, 1949, in Fairfield, IA to John and Christine Woodrow Hastings. He attended and graduated from Fairfield High School before joining the United States Navy in September of 1968. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned home to Fairfield where he started working for FALCO. He was a dedicated employee for many years until his health would no longer allow him to work. Ronald enjoyed nature and the simple pleasures it had to offer. He could often be found fishing or hunting, and during the right time of year, collecting mushrooms. Ronald had a green thumb and spent many years tending to his garden and flowers. He will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.
Ronald was preceded in death by his parents.
Left to honor his memory are his siblings, Judy (Mark) Schanfeldt of Freeport, IL, Janet (Larry) Miller of Fairfield, IA, Roger Hastings (Deanna Carter) of Keosauqua, IA, and Patti (Robert) Mitrisin of Oskaloosa, IA, as well as many nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
