An Ottumwa man was arrested after police say he cashed two fraudulent checks that totaled nearly $1,000.

27-year-old Cameron Mietzner has been charged with forgery, a Class D felony.

Court records say on Friday at 2:30 PM, Mietzner carried two checks he knew were forged. He entered an agreement to cash the forged checks and receive actual currency in return at the 500 block of West Mary Street in Ottumwa.

According to Ottumwa police, Mietnzer’s name was forged on the checks, purporting to be the intended payee despite the knowledge that his signature was inauthentic. The forged checks amounted to $955.

Mietzner was taken into custody and transported to the Wapello County Jail. He is currently free after posting a $5,000 bond.
