Carrol S. Franklin, a faith-filled and loving woman, passed away peacefully at the age of 77 on Thursday, August 24, 2023, at the Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua. Born on November 22, 1945, in Kirksville, MO, to Harold S. and Gladys I. (Breckenridge) Morris, Carrol lived a life full of warmth and devotion to her loved ones and her community.
Carrol spent her early years in Mt. Sterling, before graduating from Van Buren High School in 1964. This was followed by her marriage to Donald Septer in May 1965, who sadly passed away in 1987. In 1991, she found love again with Gordon Franklin, who also predeceased her in 2021. Throughout her life, Carrol showed immense strength and resilience, always facing life’s challenges with grace and determination.
In her professional life, Carrol was a dedicated worker. She worked at several factories in her younger years, including the glove factory in Bonaparte and Barker Wire in Keosauqua. In the early 1990s, she pursued her CMA license at Indian Hills Community College. This led to her employment at Center Village Care Center, where she worked until her retirement in 2022. Carrol’s work ethic was admirable, and she was known for her commitment and dedication.
Carrol was a woman of many interests. She enjoyed collecting lunch boxes, dancing drinking coffee and smoking cigarettes. She was a regular attendee of the Old Thresher Reunion and family reunions, and she cherished luncheons with friends. Carrol was also a notable member of the Rebekahs in Selma and an active member of the Bethel Worship Center in Douds. Her hobbies and community involvements brought joy to her life and those around her.
Carrol leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. She is survived by her son, Danniel Septer (Stacey Doree) of Eldon, and her daughter, Theresse Grubbs (Gary) of Douds. She was a proud grandmother to two grandsons, Conner Doree of Ottumwa and Griffin Septer of Eldon. Carrol’s memory will be cherished by her many relatives and friends who were fortunate to know her.
Carrol was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, Donald and Gordon, a son Ricky Septer, a twin brother, Darrel Morris and two sisters Beulah French and Barbara Roberts. Despite these losses, Carrol’s spirit remained strong, and she continued to live her life with a positive outlook.
A memorial service in honor of Carrol will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua. Pastor Phil Campbell will officiate the service. Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. at Pedrick Funeral Home, an hour prior to the service. Carrol’s cremains will be buried at Harness Cemetery in Mt. Sterling immediately following the service.
Carrol’s life was a testament to her faith, love, and resilience. She touched the lives of many with her kindness and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. As we remember Carrol, we are reminded of her unwavering strength, her love for her family, and her dedication to her community. Her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those she left behind.
