An Ottumwa man was arrested last week after authorities say they found him sleeping in a stolen car.
30-year-old Joseph Cota has been charged with second-degree theft, a Class D felony.
According to court records, on June 24 at 8:07 AM, Ottumwa police discovered Cota dozing in a vehicle that was reported stolen. Cota admitted to officers that he was in possession of the keys to the car. Additionally, Cota told law enforcement he knew the vehicle did not belong to him but he didn’t know the owner.
Cota was taken into custody and transported to the Wapello County Jail. His bail has been set at $5,000.
Cota has a preliminary hearing scheduled for July 1.
