An Ottumwa man had a kidnapping charge dropped last week.
District Court Judge Greg Milani dismissed the offense on Friday. 43-year-old Michael Eastwood was charged with first-degree kidnapping in March.
Eastwood was arrested on March 15 when a female victim told authorities that she was held captive for several days and was not free to leave Eastwood’s apartment. She stated that during this time she sustained multiple physical assaults and had been sexually assaulted.
Last week, Wapello County Attorney Reuben Neff filed a motion to dismiss the charge.
Court records say law enforcement recently discovered video evidence that “potentially absolves” Eastwood of committing the crime.
