Michael David Orona, 67, of Ottumwa, died April 5, 2023 at his home.
He was born May 29, 1955 in Ottumwa to Marvin and Kay Kearns Orona. He married Joy Lynn Parr in June 18, 1983.
A 1973 graduate of Ottumwa High School, Mike attended Indian Hills Community College in 1984 and 1985 for heating and air conditioning training. He had worked at Holiday Inn, and at BP for 33 years, mostly at the Richmond and Ferry Station. Mike had also worked maintenance at Highland Place and Cargil Meat Solutions. Currently, he was a care provider at First Resources.
Mike obtained his Ham Radio operator license and belonged to the local WA0DX Amateur Radio Club. He had been a Boy Scout Leader and enjoyed traveling with his wife, recently to an Eagles concert and Red Green Show. They loved going to Branson and attending different concerts and cruises. He also enjoyed the St. Louis Cardinals.
Surviving is his wife, Joy; their children, Craig (Maria) Orona and Andy Orona (April Stocker) both of Ottumwa; 4 grandchildren, Luis, Madison, Riley and Jax; a brother, Dennis (Denese) Orona of Elk Run Heights; and his cat, Beauty.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Patricia McClain.
Visitation will be open at 10 a.m. Monday, April 10th at Reece Funeral Home with the family present to greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 11th at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Mel Kendall officiating. Cremation will follow the service.
