Codie James Heckart, 26, of Blakesburg, died April 12, 2023 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
He was born May 6, 1996 in Des Moines to Nicholas and Candace Graff Heckart.
A 2014 graduate of Ottumwa High School, Codie had many jobs and was a hard worker. He was involved with Wapello County 4-H showing rabbits and cattle and was a member of the Cornhuskers Club.
Codie was an avid bowler and fisherman and loved music and his family.
Surviving are his parents, Nick and Candee Heckart of Blakesburg; his fiancé, Samantha Gibson of Ottumwa and her daughter, his ”bonus daughter,” Harmony Hopkins; grandfather, Gary Heckart of Ottumwa; grandmother, Pat Graff of Grimes; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and wonderful friends.
He was preceded in death by grandmother, Barb Heckart and grandfather, Gerry Graff.
Visitation will be open at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 19th at Reece Funeral Home with the family present to greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, April 20th at Reece Funeral Home. The service will be livestreamed on the Reece Funeral Home Facebook page.
Graveside services and burial will be 2 p.m. Thursday, April 20th at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.
Codie was an organ donor. Memorials may be made to Iowa Donor Network or University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
