The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office was involved in a vehicle pursuit that crossed state lines earlier this month.

According to multiple reports, on April 9, a high-speed chase began on Highway 61 in Keokuk after Jerry Myer Caviness of Keokuk refused to pull over his car. It was discovered that Caviness had multiple active warrants. A Lee County Deputy reported speeds exceeded 100 mph.

The chase continued to Highway 218, Highway 27, Highway 81, and various country roads in Missouri. Reports say Caviness hit a deer during the pursuit but was still able to stay on the road and continue driving.

According to scanner traffic, a Van Buren County Deputy laid out stop sticks and successfully deflated the front tires of Caviness’ vehicle. However, Caviness resumed driving until the car was running on its front rims.
