An Ottumwa woman was arrested after a chase with law enforcement over the weekend.

36-year-old Cynthia Holmes has been charged with eluding and driving while barred.

Court records say shortly before 11:00 PM on March 4th a deputy from the Wapello County Sheriff’s Office observed a gray Pontiac operated by Holmes that did not have a rear license plate on West 2nd Street. The deputy turned his vehicle around to initiate a traffic stop and Holmes allegedly began driving west at a high rate of speed. The pursuit continued to North Forest Street, West 5th Street, and 4th Street before ending at Taft Circle. The deputy classified Holmes as “barred as a habitual offender” in the criminal complaint. Holmes admitted on video to not stopping despite the deputy turning on his lights and siren, according to court documents.

Holmes was arrested and later freed after posting bond.
