The Ottumwa Community School District showcased its state-of-the-art facility at a grand
opening celebration for Gateway High School on Wednesday. “This day marks a new chapter in
our community’s education history.” Superintendent Mike McGrory stated proudly. The two-story,
18,000-square-foot building is fully functional for Bulldog students at its new location: 907
Gateway Drive.
The open house event was collaboratively planned by a group of Gateway students in
cooperation with staff and administrators. The evening featured an official ribbon cutting
ceremony as well as remarks from Superintendent Mike McGrory. A host of activities kept
guests moving through each learning space in exploration of the building’s new facilities. In
attendance were members of both the Ottumwa School Board and the Ottumwa Legacy
Foundation Board, as well as students and staff of past and present, and friends of the
community.
“In this environment, one that shows exactly how much the Ottumwa Community School District
values our learners, nothing is impossible.” says Gateway High School Principal, Marci Dunlap.
“To Indian Hills Community College, thank you for hosting us for the past two years. To the
Legacy Foundation, I wonder if you can comprehend just how many lives you have touched and
will touch in the years to come.”
Gateway High School serves students grades 9-12 and is a school of choice for
competency-based instruction that helps students develop pathways toward their future. In an
effort to Be The Best, the Ottumwa Community School District proudly provides this
personalized, safe, and supportive learning environment. Superintendent Mike McGrory
remarks, “At Gateway High School, we believe every student can succeed if given the right tools
and support. Our new high school will offer students a unique and innovative educational
experience.”
