The Iowa Department of Public Safety is highlighting the importance of sex offender registration compliance and the coordinated efforts of law enforcement agencies across the state.
According to the department, the Iowa Sex Offender Registry reports a 99% compliance rate among offenders required to register. Officials attribute Iowa’s high compliance rate, in part, to coordinated compliance checks involving local, county, state and federal law enforcement partners.
Recently, the Department of Public Safety’s Sex Offender Registry team hosted a statewide symposium bringing together stakeholders to collaborate, share information and participate in training focused on public safety and registration compliance.
The event drew 248 attendees from across Iowa who work to support enforcement of sex offender registration requirements for individuals living or working in the state.
The department says continued cooperation and consistent compliance checks remain important parts of its efforts to uphold registration requirements and promote public safety throughout Iowa.
