U.S. Senate candidate Josh Turek was endorsed by the Iowa Professional Fire Fighters Association (IPFF) at a press conference where fire fighters spoke about the work Josh has done to support them and about the lack of support they’ve received from Ashley Hinson.

As one of Iowa’s most effective and bipartisan leaders, Josh has worked across the aisle more than 700 times, including to support those that protect and defend Iowa communities. In the State House, Josh advanced a bill to expand coverage for emergency responders in Iowa, and worked closely alongside Iowa fire fighters in the process of developing the bipartisan legislation. Josh shares the IPFF’s commitment to passing legislation that improves safety and provides our fire fighters with the tools they need to keep all Iowans safe. Meanwhile, Ashley Hinson received a 0% rating on the International Association of Fire Fighters this session.

“Josh has been a huge advocate for us. Recently, we were successful in passing one of the largest pension enhancements and coverages in the state of Iowa with covering all cancers for fire fighters to be considered work-related injuries. Josh was instrumental in that. Another big thing for us is when you’re a legislator, when you’re representing the people of Iowa, fire fighters, we think it’s your job and your duty to be approachable, to be able to get back to people, to be able to just answer phone calls. And we have seen that as an issue with some of our representatives, specifically Ashley Hinson who is currently holding that position,” said Ryan Hanghian, President of IPFF.

“I went back and watched the footage from H.F. 969 going through the house. And the first thing that popped out to me was Bobby Kaufman (R-Cedar) thanking Josh specifically. I think that says a lot for people we look to endorse. We know that Josh is going to work with somebody whether they’re a D or an R. Putting our issues first rather than the party is a particularly bold thing these days, so we’re in favor of leaders like that – that’s why we’re excited about supporting Josh for U.S. Senate,” said Aaron Johnson, Des Moines Fire fighter and Secretary of IPFF Local 4.

“I am deeply honored to have the support of Iowa fire fighters. Our Iowa fire fighters are some of the greatest men and women in our state. They wake up every single day to serve their communities. I am proud to have worked across the aisle to support our Iowa fire fighters, and I am proud to work right there alongside all of you. In the U.S. Senate, I’ll continue to work to pass legislation that improves safety and provides our fire fighters with the tools they need to keep all Iowans safe. Ashley Hinson will not do that. She is Iowa’s least bipartisan member of Congress and she is only looking out for herself and her billionaire donors – not for everyday Iowans that will keep our state safe,” said Josh Turek.
