Heavy Rain and Storms Expected Across Iowa

The National Weather Service in Des Moines is warning Iowans to be prepared for several rounds of potentially heavy rainfall and thunderstorms this week.

Forecasters say repeated rounds of rain could lead to areas of flash flooding, with the potential for river flooding developing later as rainfall continues.

Strong to severe thunderstorms are also possible this afternoon across parts of central Iowa. Forecasters say all severe weather hazards could be possible, including damaging winds, large hail and isolated tornadoes.

The unsettled weather pattern is expected to continue from today through much of next week, making it important for residents to keep an eye on changing weather conditions and be prepared to act if warnings are issued.

Residents in flood-prone areas should monitor rainfall amounts and river levels, and motorists are reminded never to drive through flooded roadways.
