Van Buren County will host a state-qualifying cross country meet on Thursday, October 22nd beginning at 4:00 p.m. at the Riverview Country Club, according to a social media post from the district and the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union.
Van Buren County’s girls cross country team enters the meet ranked seventh in Class 1A by the Iowa Association of Track Coaches, having already claimed a team title earlier this season.
Due to the meet, the district will have an early dismissal that day. Elementary centers will dismiss at 1:45 p.m. and the middle school and high school will dismiss at 2:00 p.m.
The meet is one of several state-qualifying sites announced by the IHSAA and IGHSAU for all classes of cross country. Team assignments and meet information for each site will be released the week of October 12th.
No admission will be charged for state qualifying meets, though host sites may apply parking fees.
The state cross country meet will be held in Fort Dodge and split over two days. Class 1A and 2A races are scheduled for Friday, October 30th, with Class 3A and 4A races on Saturday, October 31st. The scheduling is designed to accommodate IGHSAU regional volleyball dates.
The community is encouraged to come out and cheer on the Warrior runners.
