Keokuk County Public Health is hitting the road this fall, bringing health education, resources, screenings, and other services directly to communities across the county through a new initiative called Public Health Pop-Ups, according to an announcement from Public Health Director Allie Helmuth.
The pop-up events are free, open to everyone, and require no appointment. Services available at each event may include free blood pressure checks, the opportunity to ask a nurse general health and wellness questions, health education and informational handouts, free health and safety items, immunization information, chronic disease prevention resources, mental health and substance use resources, home health and community resource information, emergency preparedness information, and connections to local programs and services. Offerings may vary by location.
The first round of Public Health Pop-Up dates and locations is as follows:
Thursday, September 3rd from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Hedrick Community Center in Hedrick. Thursday, September 10th from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Keota Community Room at Keota City Hall, and from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Pavilion in Richland. Thursday, September 17th from 10:00 a.m. to noon at Sigourney City Hall. Thursday, September 24th from 10:00 a.m. to noon at What Cheer City Hall.
Helmuth said the goal of the initiative is straightforward. “Our goal is to make public health accessible, convenient, and visible throughout our county,” she said. “Whether you have a health question, want your blood pressure checked, need help finding a resource, or simply want to learn more about what Public Health offers, we encourage you to stop by.”
