The Sigourney Community School District will dismiss at 1:30 p.m. Monday through Friday this week due to a current heat advisory and extreme temperatures, including interior classroom temperatures exceeding 90 degrees in portions of the buildings, according to a social media post from Superintendent Nathan Wood.

The early dismissal schedule applies Monday, August 31st through Thursday, September 3rd. Friday, September 4th also has a 1:30 p.m. early dismissal, which was already scheduled for the Labor Day holiday. There will be no school on Monday, September 7th or Tuesday, September 8th.

Adjustments will also be made to after school activities and practices to accommodate the temperatures. Coaches will be in communication with their students regarding scheduling changes for the week.

“The health and safety of our students and staff remain our priority,” Wood said. “We appreciate the flexibility and understanding of our families as we adjust the school schedule due to these unusually high temperatures.”

Those with questions can contact the Superintendent’s Office at nathan.wood@sigourneyschools.com.
