Cardinal upcoming senior Matthew Blomme has committed to the University of Iowa to continue his academic and baseball career, according to a social media post from Cardinal Comets Baseball.
Blomme had a dominant junior season on the mound for the Comets, going 7-2 with a 1.43 ERA across 49 innings pitched. He struck out 97 batters while holding opposing hitters to a .096 batting average against. Among his standout performances this season was a 16-strikeout effort against Mount Pleasant in a 4-1 victory in May.
Blomme’s junior campaign was part of a strong overall season for Cardinal, which finished 18-6 — the program’s most wins since going 18-11 in the 2012-13 season — and placed second in the South Central Conference.
With one year of high school baseball remaining, Blomme will look to build on his impressive junior season before heading to Iowa City to join the Hawkeyes.
