Attorney General Brenna Bird announced the Medicaid Fraud Elimination Task Force held its second official meeting today. The 11-member task force was established by Governor Reynolds to enhance efficiency and safeguard taxpayer dollars within Iowa’s Medicaid program.

The task force is chaired by Attorney General Bird and brings together leaders from state departments, law enforcement, and Iowa’s managed care organizations. The task force has established work groups to strategize over the following areas:

  • Federal Alignment & Medicaid Fraud Control Unit Optimization
  • Technology & Data Analytics
  • High-Risk Services & Quality Initiatives
  • Managed Care Organization Network Management
  • Public Awareness & Reporting Channels

At today’s meeting, the chair of each workgroup presented a report on their individual group meetings.

“Iowans deserve a Medicaid system that is efficient and free from fraud because it is their taxes that fund it,” said Attorney General Bird. “There is no acceptable level of fraud. I want to thank the members of the task force workgroups who have already shared good ideas and will continue to strategize ways to secure Iowa Medicaid from waste, abuse, and fraud. I look forward to a final report that we can present to the governor.”
