Patsy Ilene (Blumer) Heiden Brown, age 84, of Albia, IA, passed away on Friday, August 7, 2026, at the Monroe County Hospital in Albia.
Patsy was born on April 29, 1942, in Moravia, IA, to Clell and Opal (Swaim) Blumer. She grew up in Moravia and graduated from Moravia High School with the Class of 1960. Following high school, Patsy worked at Northwestern Bell in Des Moines as an IBM key punch & key verifier operator. On August 25, 1961, she was united in marriage to Dennis Oren Heiden and to this union, 5 children were born: Branden, Julie, Heath, Heather, and Rhea. Ater many years, Patsy and Dennis later divorced. On December 13, 2002, Patsy married Larry Brown, who preceded her in death on December 10, 2018.
Pasty held several jobs throughout her working years, spending the longest portion of her career with Northwestern Bell in Des Moines and most recently, the Albia School District. Patsy enjoyed collecting cookbooks, milk cows, and coffee pots, as well as canning vegetables from the garden. She loved going to garage sales, thrift stores, and flea markets.
Some of Patsy’s fondest memories came from the places and moments that held special meaning to her. She fondly remembered roller skating at the Dewey & Grace Hilltop Skating Rink in Moravia, seeing the Christmas lights and hearing Christmas music coming from the church and community building in Moravia, and riding around Unionville, IA, when growing up. Above all, Patsy treasured time spent with her family and loved family reunions and holiday gatherings.
Patsy is survived by her children, Branden (Brenda) Heiden, Julie Brown, Heath (Sonia) Heiden, Heather (Erin) Hibma, and Rhea Heiden; her grandchildren, Amber Feagins, Tory Heiden, Brianne Teeter, Gabrielle Babbitt, Alexia Johnson, Trent Johnson, Ethan Hibma, Hannah Hibma, Reese Heiden, Caulen Hibma, Alec Heiden and Mea Heiden; great grandchildren, Jayce Heiden, Everly Teeter, Lilly Teeter, Noah Teeter, Jonah Teeter, Lala Heiden; and her beloved dog, Maggie.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Larry Brown; a grandson, Chandler Heiden; her parents, Clell and Opal Blumer; and her sister, Donna Louise Blumer.
A Celebration of Life visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 14, 2026, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Patsy’s family present to greet family and friends.
An open memorial has been established to the family.
