Four people were injured Thursday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Henry Des Moines Avenue and Highway 34 in Henry County, near the county line between Henry County and Des Moines County, according to a crash report from the Iowa State Patrol.
The crash occurred at approximately 3:04 p.m. on August 6th near the county line between Henry and Des Moines counties. According to the report, a 2019 Ford EcoSport driven by Nancy Waddell, 69, of Burlington was stopped at the stop sign on Henry Des Moines Avenue facing south when she attempted to enter Highway 34. A 2022 Ford F-150 driven by Don Northup, 73, of West Burlington was traveling west on Highway 34 when Waddell’s vehicle attempted to enter the highway and struck Northup’s vehicle broadside. Both vehicles were disabled and towed from the scene. Multiple agencies assisted at the scene.
Four occupants were injured in the crash. Bi Qiong Northup, 61, of West Burlington was transported to Burlington Hospital by Burlington Fire. Mary J. Wemmie, 81, of West Burlington was transported to the University of Iowa Hospital by Med Force. Donald D. Wemmie, 82, of West Burlington was transported to Henry County Health Center by Henry County EMS. Clary A.R. Northup, 26, of West Burlington was injured but not transported.
All four injured parties were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, and the report indicates a seatbelt saved the life of each occupant.
