Rain Pauses Iowa State Fair Setup

Heavy rainfall has prompted the Iowa State Fair to temporarily halt vendor and camper setup as saturated ground conditions create safety concerns ahead of the 2026 Fair.

As of 10:15 a.m. Wednesday, August 5, approximately 2.5 inches of rain had fallen since Tuesday night, with additional rainfall continuing.

Fair officials announced that all vendor and camper setup is paused for Wednesday. Concessionaires and outdoor vendors may only park or set up on hard surfaces. Setup on grassy areas will not be permitted until 8:00 a.m. Thursday, August 6.

In addition, the Iowa State Fair Campgrounds will close to new camper arrivals at noon on Wednesday, August 5. The campgrounds are scheduled to reopen at 8:00 a.m. Thursday, August 6.

According to Fair officials, the temporary restrictions are necessary because ground conditions are too soft. Allowing vehicles, trailers, and campers onto grassy areas could cause significant damage, including deep ruts, while also creating unsafe conditions for those entering the grounds.

Visitors, vendors, and campers are encouraged to monitor the Iowa State Fair’s weather and parking updates for the latest information before traveling to the fairgrounds.
