The City of Fairfield is informing residents that HomeServe will soon begin mailing information to homeowners about optional exterior water and sewer service line protection plans, emphasizing that the mailings are legitimate and part of an agreement between the city and the company, according to a press release from the City of Fairfield.
City officials said the mailings are authorized and are not fraudulent. Participation in the HomeServe program is entirely voluntary, and residents are under no obligation to purchase coverage.
The city noted that property owners are responsible for the operation and maintenance of the privately owned water and sewer service lines that run between their home or building and the city’s main utility lines. Those service lines can fail without warning, potentially resulting in costly repairs.
The HomeServe protection plans are available only to residential properties. Before deciding whether additional coverage is necessary, the City of Fairfield encourages homeowners to review their existing homeowner’s insurance policy or contact their insurance provider to determine whether similar protection may already be included.
The city also encouraged residents to carefully consider their individual needs and circumstances when evaluating the optional coverage offered through HomeServe.
According to the press release, the city is sharing the information to help residents understand the purpose of the upcoming mailing. Questions regarding enrollment, coverage, pricing, claims, or other plan details should be directed to HomeServe using the contact information included in the mailing.
