Iowa Workforce Development (IWD) has announced a new statewide initiative aimed at helping manufacturers strengthen their workforce and fill critical skills gaps across the industry.
The program, known as Advanced Manufacturing Pathways Development (AMP’D) Iowa, is funded through a $4.7 million grant awarded to the state by the U.S. Department of Labor. The funding is designed to support industry-driven training programs that address workforce needs in advanced manufacturing.
Beginning June 29, eligible Iowa manufacturers can apply for grants to develop employer-led training programs focused on areas such as production, machine maintenance, and other high-demand skills. Applications will be accepted through the state’s grant portal at iowagrants.gov.
Governor Kim Reynolds said the initiative will help manufacturers remain competitive while creating additional opportunities for Iowans to pursue high-paying careers.
An informational webinar for interested employers is scheduled for June 23 at 1 p.m. More details about the program are available at ampd.iowa.gov.
Grant applications will be reviewed as they are received, with priority given to eligible small and medium-sized manufacturers. Iowa State University’s Center for Industrial Research and Service (CIRAS) will assist employers in identifying workforce needs and training priorities.
According to IWD, manufacturing is Iowa’s second-largest employment sector, supporting more than 217,000 jobs and contributing 17 percent of the state’s annual gross domestic product. Industry employment is projected to grow by nearly 15 percent over the next decade, making workforce development a key focus for the state’s economic future.
