The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is asking the public to give space to a rare white fawn recently spotted on the campus of Indian Hills Community College.
The newborn deer was observed on May 12 and is believed to have either leucism or albinism, two uncommon genetic conditions that affect pigmentation and can cause animals to appear white.
Officials remind residents and visitors not to touch, feed, or approach the animal. Human interaction can place unnecessary stress on wildlife.
The Department of Natural Resources encourages anyone who sees the fawn to enjoy the experience from a safe distance and allow the animal to remain undisturbed in its natural environment.
