Pekin Girls and Boys Track and Field Teams Both Finish Runner-Up at Iowa/Missouri Battle of the Border

The Pekin girls and boys track and field teams both turned in runner-up finishes Thursday, March 26th, at the Iowa/Missouri Battle of the Border meet at Davis County, finishing just behind the host Mustangs in both team standings.

The Pekin girls finished with 166 points, behind Davis County’s winning total of 178. Centerville placed third with 141, followed by Kirksville (MO) with 71, Putnam County (MO) with 51, and Schuyler County (MO) with 22.

On the boys side, Pekin finished with 146.5 points, just behind Davis County’s 157.5. Putnam County (MO) was third with 108, Centerville fourth with 67, Schuyler County (MO) fifth with 54, and Kirksville (MO) sixth with 10.

Girls Results

The Pekin girls captured seven event victories.

Chloe Glosser led the way with a dominant individual performance, winning both the 800-meter run in 2:29.96 and the 3,000-meter run in 10:23.96. Anna Hadley swept the throwing events, winning the discus with a throw of 124-05 and the shot put at 42-01. Paislee Coleman added another win in the 100-meter hurdles in 17.55.

Pekin also excelled in the relays. The shuttle hurdle relay team of Reece Brisby, Abby Guise, Carlie Gambell, and Paislee Coleman won in 1:12.65. The distance medley relay team of Addison Smith, Brin Lauderman, Maddy Petrehn, and Chloe Glosser also took first in 4:39.58.

In the distance races, Emerson Porter placed fourth in the 800-meter run in 2:58.21, while Callie Deutschle was seventh in 3:12.90 behind Glosser. Porter added a fifth-place finish in the 1,500-meter run in 6:17.43, with Harper Guise eighth in 6:33.20 and Haven Hensley 10th in 7:12.92. Davis County’s Alaina Arnevik won the race in 5:25.39. Hensley also placed fifth in the 3,000-meter run in 16:00.97, where Glosser took first.

In the sprint events, Kendra Schultz placed 12th in the 100-meter dash in 14.78, Addison Smith was 13th in 14.82, and Ryleigh Garr 22nd in 17.12. Kirra Whisler of Centerville won the race in 13.13. In the 200-meter dash, Mya Glick finished 10th in 31.30 and Breanna Drish 12th in 31.57. Journey Al-Khanfar of Davis County won in 28.66. In the 400-meter dash, Callie Deutschle placed seventh in 1:18.07 and Harper Guise eighth in 1:21.62. Alaina Arnevik of Centerville won in 1:05.79.

Carlie Gambell added a runner-up finish in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:18.15 behind Arnevik’s winning time of 1:14.93, while Aleigha Sieren placed ninth in the 100-meter hurdles in 21.41.

Pekin continued to score in the relay events. The 800-meter sprint medley team of Addison Smith, Carlie Gambell, Brin Lauderman, and Maddy Petrehn placed third in 2:09.00 behind Davis County’s winning mark of 1:58.00.

The 4×100 relay team of Addison Smith, Brin Lauderman, Breanna Drish, and Paislee Coleman finished fourth in 57.00 behind Davis County’s winning time of 54.27, while a second Pekin team of Ryleigh Garr, Taylor Moore, Aleigha Sieren, and Kendra Schultz placed eighth in 1:02.02.

The 4×200 relay team of Mya Glick, Fynlie Brooks, Breanna Drish, and Abby Guise placed fourth in 2:04.48 behind Centerville’s winning time of 1:56.38.

The 4×400 team of Mya Glick, Abby Guise, Carlie Gambell, and Maddy Petrehn finished third in 4:57.83 behind Davis County’s winning time of 4:32.88.

The 4×800 relay team of Maddy Petrehn, Callie Deutschle, Ashlynn Adrian, and Harper Guise placed second in 11:48.71 behind Davis County’s winning time of 10:58.24.

In the field events, Brin Lauderman placed second in the high jump clearing 4-08, with Paislee Coleman third at 4-06. Alaina Arnevik of Centerville won at 4-10. Mya Glick finished third in the long jump at 14-04.50, while Fynlie Brooks was 11th at 12-08.50. Kirra Whisler of Centerville won at 15-00.

Taylor Moore added a strong day in the throws, placing second in the discus at 97-08 behind Hadley’s winning throw and third in the shot put at 31-03.50. Kendra Schultz placed fifth in the discus at 85-00 and fourth in the shot put at 30-07. Rylee Frye was 12th in the discus at 67-00 and 14th in the shot put at 25-03.

Boys Results

The Pekin boys matched the girls with seven event victories.

Samuel Loper won the 200-meter dash in 23.44, while Cole Millikin captured the 1,600-meter run in 5:04.65.

Pekin’s relay teams were outstanding. The 800-meter sprint medley team of Alijah Brock, Aliyas Brock, Riley Smith, and Nolan Glick won in 1:36.78. The 4×100 relay team of Henry Adam, Alijah Brock, Aliyas Brock, and Cael Silvers won in 48.30. The 4×200 relay team of Aliyas Brock, Riley Smith, Nolan Glick, and Alijah Brock took first in 1:33.78.

The Panthers also won the 4×800 relay in 8:43.63 with Mason Dahlstrom, Cole Millikin, Brody Sobaski, and Lane Fariss, along with the distance medley relay in 4:05.24 with Henry Adam, Alijah Brock, Aliyas Brock, and Lane Fariss.

In the sprints, Nolan Glick placed second in the 100-meter dash in 11.65 behind Corbin Campbell-Johnson of Putnam County (MO), who won in 11.54. Cael Silvers was 14th in 12.63, Henry Eubanks 18th in 12.86, Henry Adam 19th in 12.97, and Pierce Coleman 23rd in 14.25. Behind Loper in the 200, Cael Silvers placed 11th in 26.07, Henry Eubanks 18th in 26.74, and Clayton Harvey 21st in 28.15. Brody Sobaski added a second-place finish in the 400-meter dash in 55.68, while Cody Silvers was fourth in 56.96 and Clayton Harvey 11th in 1:02.23. Mark Fraise of Davis County won in 52.73.

In the distance events, Cody Silvers placed eighth in the 800-meter run in 2:27.16, followed by William Daniels in 10th, Landon Fariss in 11th, and Conor Cloyd in 13th. Boden Darling of Putnam County (MO) won in 2:10.98. William Daniels placed 10th in the 1,600-meter run in 5:51.71, with Landon Fariss 11th in 5:55.02 and Garett Greiner 13th in 6:20.26. In the 3,200-meter run, Landon Fariss finished third in 12:53.73 and Garett Greiner fourth in 13:22.47. Gage Moss of Davis County won in 11:37.32.

In the hurdles, Keegan Dickey placed seventh in the 110-meter hurdles in 19.98 and Ryann Hammes ninth in 20.78. Brekk Nelson of Davis County won in 16.38. Riley Smith added a second-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles in 58.52, with Jaxon Mefford fourth in 1:05.63. Mark Fraise of Davis County won in 56.66.

Pekin also had strong relay finishes outside of its victories. The 4×400 relay team of Nolan Glick, Lane Fariss, Mason Dahlstrom, and Riley Smith placed second in 3:38.83 behind Davis County’s winning time of 3:36.38, while a second Pekin team of Pierce Coleman, Samuel Loper, Hunter Chapman, and Clayton Harvey was fifth in 4:39.44. The shuttle hurdle relay team of Ryann Hammes, Ethan Porter, Keegan Dickey, and Jaxon Mefford finished second in 1:21.79 behind Davis County’s winning time of 1:06.10.

A second 4×100 team of Clayton Harvey, Ethan Porter, Colton Harvey, and Keegan Dickey placed eighth in 55.75, while a second 4×200 team of Pierce Coleman, Samuel Loper, Hunter Chapman, and Asaa McCabe placed sixth in 1:53.54.

In the field events, Brody Sobaski placed second in the high jump clearing 5-08, while Jaxon Mefford was fifth at 5-02. Talan Cramer of Davis County won at 6-00. Henry Adam added a third-place finish in the long jump at 18-07, with Ethan Porter 12th at 14-11 and Keegan Dickey 14th at 14-09. Mason Oliver of Schuyler County (MO) won at 20-10.

In the shot put, Brantyn Sieren placed fifth at 37-06.50, Cowen Weaver ninth at 32-00.50, Johnathan Delaney 19th at 25-06, and Cal Miller 21st at 23-05.50. Deacon Schoonover of Schuyler County (MO) won at 46-09.50. In the discus, Cowen Weaver placed eighth at 90-06, Maksim Pfeifer 15th at 67-07, and Kieran Adrian 17th at 60-00. Schoonover also won the discus at 161-02.
