Lynne Scalph, of Fairfield, born January 27, 1950, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, veteran, and skilled craftsman, passed peaceful away at 12:50 a.m. on Friday, March 20, 2026, at the VA Medical Center in Iowa City surrounded by the love of his family.

A man of quiet strength and steady hands, Lynne built not only with wood, but with care, patience, and dedication to those he loved most.

He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, including during the Vietnam War from 1968 to 1972. His service reflected the resilience, discipline, and sense of duty that defined his life.

He was a proud father of six children: Thomas Scalph; Timothy Scalph and his wife, Amanda; Scott Scalph and his wife, Angela; Sheena Scalph and her husband, Brock Peterson; Mershel Scalph; and Melisa Crawford. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Tona, Jeffery, Emma, Audra, and many more whom he loved dearly. Lynne found his greatest joy in spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, who brought him endless pride and happiness.

Lynne was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Leah Scalph, with whom he shared a deep and lasting love. He is also reunited with his parents, Leonard Scalph and Helen Babcock Scalph, and his seven siblings: Jack, James, Paul, Marylen, Carolyn, Judith, and Lenora.

A talented carpenter by trade, Lynne had a gift for working with his hands and creating things that lasted. Outside of his work, he was an expert fisherman who felt most at peace by the water, rod in hand, enjoying the quiet and simplicity of the lake.

Lynne will be remembered as stubborn, funny, and possessing a beautiful heart. He held strong beliefs and even stronger opinions that shaped the way he lived his life. His presence will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the lives he built and the people he loved.

A celebration of life will be held in Kansas at a later date.
