Elizabeth “Ann” Barnhouse, the daughter of Charles L. “Chuck” and Mary Ann “Mimi” Barnhouse was born on October 9, 1954, in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Ann graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1973. After graduation, Ann worked at various jobs until she started working for Mahaska State Bank (now Midwest One Bank) in September 1975 until June 2008. Ann currently worked part-time at C.L Barnhouse Music Publishing. Ann was a member of Beta Sigma Pi International, St. James Episcopal Church and Altar Guild, and Mahaska Hospice Auxiliary. Ann enjoyed working in her yard, playing golf with friends or by herself, listening to the Oskaloosa City Band on Thursday nights in the summer and enjoyed visiting with friends at Smokey Row. Ann has traveled to different parts of the United States, Canada, and Costa Rica. She volunteered at the Ecumenical Cupboard and End of the Month Meals.
On Friday, March 6, 2026, Ann passed away at home from complications of kidney failure.
Her family includes her sister, Lynn Barnhouse (Tom Oliphant) of Minneapolis, Minnesota and an aunt, Artie Clark (Ken Howard).
She was proceeded in death by her parents.
A Memorial service will be held in the St. James Episcopal church in Oskaloosa on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. with the Reverend Terry Kleven officiating. Burial will be at Forest Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Bates Funeral Chapel on Monday, March 9, 2026, with open visitation beginning after 1:00 p.m. and family present from 5:00-7:00 p.m. As was Ann’s wish her body has been cremated. Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be made to: St James Episcopal Church or the Ecumenical Cupboard.
