Our precious daughter, Vonda Kay King Rohrer, 61, received her angel wings on March 31, 2026 after a courageous health battle. Vonda was cared for at the Serenity Hospice House in Oskaloosa, Iowa, where she was surrounded by her family until she passed away peacefully.
Vonda was born on September 20, 1964, in Denver, Colorado to parents Delmer and Alice Ruby King. She married the love of her life DeWayne Rohrer on June 6, 1981; their union blessed with two sons Douglas and Danial Rohrer.
Growing up in Ottumwa, Vonda had worked as a CNA at various nursing homes. Moving to Des Moines in 1985, she and her husband moved back to Eddyville in 2014. She had worked in housekeeping and as a hostess for various hotels in Ottumwa and while living in Des Moines.
Vonda especially loved working in the garden alongside her Grandma Ruby. She took pride in snapping the green beans and shelling the peas while sitting on the porch swing. Her favorite gardening task was helping Granny Ruby make the stinky sauerkraut in the crocks. She was adamant in attending all the sports activities both boys participated in. Vonda’s presence was a gift, a light that could fill any room. She was full of grit, humor, faith, with just the right amount of sass and her infectious laugh was unforgettable. Her life was organized around her family, friends, fun, and a strong bond for her kittens, Grizz, Dusty, Middy and Bandit, all of whom DeWayne now becomes their benefactor. She enjoyed reading especially by her favorite author, Danielle Steele. At a young age she learned to crochet, taught by her icon Grandma Ruby so Afghans became her pastime. For fun and enjoyment, she and Keely would spend many Sunday afternoons creating hand painting designs on rocks to adorn the surrounding landscaping.
Vonda is survived by her husband DeWayne Rohrer, parents Alice (Terry) Norris, children, Douglas (Amanda) Rohrer, Danial Rohrer (companion Maddie Riegel), grandchildren William Lucas Rohrer and Michael Joseph Rohrer, niece Jaylena Henningsen, and very special family friends Reanne Jefferson, Dottie Woodard and Keely Ruby.
Preceded in death were her father Delmer King, brother Robert Allen King, grandparents Barney F. and Ethel Ray Ruby.
She believed that love was something to be shown daily, and her caring heart extended to working with the elderly.
Her family thanks all who supported her with prayers and kindness. A special thank you to Keely Ruby and Dottie Woodard, for not only their friendship but their caring support during Vonda’s illness. She leaves a huge emptiness in the hearts of all of us who love her and her laughter will stay in our hearts forever.
We will look for the signs every day and will never stop loving you and remembering the life you shared.
Visitation with her family present to greet friends will be 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 6th at Reece Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 6th at Reece Funeral Home with burial in Shaul Cemetery.
The family requests donations be made to Serenity House, 630 N 12th St, Oskaloosa, Iowa 52577 whose staff graciously gave her their personal loving care.
