Authorities were called to a residential neighborhood following reports of vandalism.
On December 29th at approximately 2:02 PM, the Ottumwa Police Department responded to a report of criminal mischief in the 700 block of Clinton Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found Dakota Durbin, 32, of Ottumwa, visibly intoxicated and in the process of destroying a bedroom window that did not belong to him. Witnesses reported that Durbin allegedly punched the window, causing damage estimated at around $100.
Officers, who were fully uniformed, issued lawful commands to Durbin, but he refused to cooperate. As they attempted to place him into the patrol vehicle, Durbin physically resisted their efforts. It was noted that he was aware of the officers’ lawful orders but chose not to obey them.
Durbin was subsequently transported to the Wapello County Jail and later released. He faces charges of interference with official acts, a simple misdemeanor, and criminal mischief in the 5th degree, also a simple misdemeanor. According to court documents, Durbin has negotiated a voluntary plea agreement related to these charges.
