The Ottumwa Police Department recently responded to a report of domestic abuse, leading to the arrest of a local resident.

On December 26th, at approximately 7:31 PM, the Ottumwa Police Department was dispatched to East McPherson Park Boulevard in response to a report of domestic abuse.

Upon arrival, officers requested that Jorge Alonso, 60, of Ottumwa, step outside the residence. According to court filings, when Alonso opened the door, he attempted to pull away from the officers, trying to re-engage with the victim. He passively resisted arrest by turning away and attempting to pull his hands apart while being placed in handcuffs.

The police reported that Alonso had assaulted the victim by spitting on her. Notably, Alonso is the father-in-law of the victim, and both currently reside in the same household. He willfully obstructed and resisted the officers while they were performing their duties.

Alonso was transported to the Wapello County Jail, where he was later released after posting a $500 bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for February 12th. He faces charges of domestic abuse assault (1st offense, simple misdemeanor) and interference with official acts (simple misdemeanor).
