With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Charlotte Pfab, age 75, of Fairfield, Iowa.

She was born in Dubuque, Iowa, on October 19, 1950, and spent her childhood on the family farm in Bernard, IA. She peacefully left this world from the comfort of her recliner on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, in Fairfield, where she made her home for many years. Charlotte was a woman whose life was a gift to every person and animal alike. She possessed a rare and beautiful calling: she listened. From the comfort of her beloved home, her ministry was often carried out over the phone. Anyone could call, and Charlotte would patiently listen, offer counsel and advice, and gently share possible solutions drawn from a lifetime of compassion. She enjoyed crocheting and baking and would make blankets, baby gifts, homemade caramels and biscotti to share with others, a true example of her servant’s heart. She loved the beauty that nature provided as well as any type of flower.

Charlotte was also a long-time member of P.E.O. Chapter OO in Fairfield. She faced many health challenges, including COPD and congestive heart failure, yet her spirit remained strong, generous, and loving until the end. Charlotte cherished her independence and her darling home, where she found contentment and peace. She is now free from pain, coughing, fear, and struggle — no more ambulances, no more terror of falling, no more battles with her body. Her spirit lives on in the countless lives she touched through her kindness, empathy, and unwavering care for others. To be loved by Charlotte was a special thing. Indeed, she is free at last.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Regina Pfab; her brothers, Irvin Pfab, Ernest Pfab, Fr. Martin Pfab, Edmund Pfab, Clarence Pfab, Henry Pfab, and Fr. Cletus Pfab; and her sisters, Lucille Stokesberry and Julie Little. She is survived by her sisters, Bernice Martensen and Caroline Koppes.

In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial contributions in Charlotte’s honor may be directed to the Fairfield Public Library, 104 W. Adams Ave., Fairfield, IA 52556 or to Kathleen Kessel to help with expenses at 709 South 2nd St., Fairfield, IA 52556.
